I bought it 3 years ago from an old gentleman who had this Chief for 20 years in his apartment under all sorts of junk. The Indian looked good at first glance. Later, however, very much as damage came to light ...
I underestimated the whole restoration and luckily I had my good friend Alain who has helped me a lot on this restoration. Thank you Alain and all others who helped me! Otherwise the machine would not run today.
For a year now, i ride the Indian almost every day and even though this bike was build for long, straight roads in America, the Indian runs fine in the Swiss mountains! INDIAN, what a wunderful Motorcycle!

The engine was an inline 6 cylinder unit, effectively one half of the Lamborghini Miura's V12 engine and mounted transversely above the rear axles. Supermarine Spitfire Mk VIII

The Mk VIII (and VII) featured a strengthened fuselage with a retractable tail wheel. Each wing carried a 14-gallon self sealing fuel tank, and the main fuselage fuel tank was increased in size to 96 gallons. These changes gave the Mk VIII the same range as the Mk V, although as this distance was achieved at a higher speed, the Mk VIII could stay in the air for less time than the Mk V. Most Mk VIIIs used a new broad-chord, or pointed-tip rudder. It also featured a new tropical filter – the Vokes Aero-Vee – that was so well designed it was installed on all Mk VIIIs and adapted for tme Mk IX. The Mk VIII used the “c” wing armament (four cannon or two cannon and two machine guns) and could carry up to 1,000lbs of bombs.

They like to get on track as much as possible with their vintage Nortons and Ducatis in the WERA and AHRMA leagues. There is an appreciation of period racing machines with there graceful design and dedicated focus. This is what motivated my personal interest in vintage racing and the desire for this bike. As with all vintage racing, the project is about the bike as much as it is about being on the track.

This brings us to Kenny Cummings. He has been a long-standing member of our small community of vintage motorcycle enthusiasts in New York City and we have watched his vintage racing and bike-building career grow over the years.

The Scott machine was the product of an engineering genius called Alfred Angas Scott (1874 - 1923). His first motorcycle was built using a homemade twin cylinder engine installed into the steering head of a modified bicycle. In 1945, Pierre Balmain opened his own fashion house . The house showcased long bell-shaped skirts with small waists - a line which later became popular as Dior's New Look. In 1951 he opened branches in the United States selling ready-to-wear clothes. During the 1950s, Balmain popularized the stole for day as well as evening wear and created a vogue for sheath dresses beneath jackets.

This prefabricated geodesic dome designed for and by Jamaican architect Pat Stanigar is completed in 2004, on the site of a previous dome (1984) that was burnt to the ground in 2002. The project is made from a prefabricated kit to provide the basic structure of the dome and it’s based on a hexagonal unit that is cyclically layered to a closed loop.
After graduating from Pratt Institute's School of Architecture, Patrick Staniger worked in New York for three years, returning to Jamaica in 1971. He worked for a short time with the Jamaican firm McMorris Sibley Robinson and then founded Design Collaborative with three other Architects.

The black Widow is 1st project, it is again a more "old scoolish" bike like "El Diablo". This bike was the very first which he customized and was finished in February 2009.
Following the philosophie: "A bikers work is never done" he added some more odd's and end's since then until he got to this final stage.
- frame sandblasted and rewelded, Harley Footboards, handmade handlebar, imported frontlight, Ford A taillight, license plate moved to left, custom turn indicators, custom cockpit/gauges, custom leather framebag, custom exhaust, imported carbs, 16 inch rims, tailor made spokes, imported tyres, handmade seat, imported seatsprings, handmade tailfender (was made out of a old plain fender with added sideskirts)

"Black Widow" ain't one of those "Show and Shiny" rides but Thomas daily driver which he uses to get to the office almost each day.

Shinya Kimura is a Japanese born custom bike builder and founder of Zero Engineering and Chabott Engineering, he originated the "zero style" custom bike.
In 2006 Kimura set up his own shop and named Chabott Engineering to build both custom bikes as well as moving himself toward the world of art.
Kimura said, "Since setting up in America, I've moved from being just a custom-bike builder to slightly changing my direction a little more toward the world of art. They usually have thin, arched, angry looking tattooed-on or penciled-on eyebrows, brown or dark red lip liner, 'Monroe', eyebrow and nose piercings, tats, Converse or Nikes, flannel shirts, lots of gold jewlrey (with their name and crosses), crunchy gelled or moussed hair either down or gelled in a high perfect ponytail either straight back or gelled in a design, and they go out with cholos.
A lot of regular mexican or puerto rican girls do the look but aren't cholas. A true chola is down for her barrio and is in a gang, and is as ruthless as a male gangbanger if not more. It is much more common to just look like a chola, and not act like a chola.
The chola style is common in southern California like east LA, San Diego, OC, and also NYC. In Miami they are called 'chongas'.

1962 Daytona 200 race in Florida by Iron & Resin

The Daytona 200 is a 68-lap, 200-mile (320 km) motorcycle race held annually at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. The race has been one of the toughest in American motorcycling because of its endurance-like qualities of pit stops for tires and fuel.
In 1962 the winner was Don Burnett on a Triumph, the last Norton to win the race was in 1952 with Dick Klamfoth.

Dick Klamfoth burst onto the motorcycle racing scene by wining the Daytona 200 in 1949, on his very first attempt. Klamfoth continued on to win the spring classic again in 1951 and 1952 to become the first three-time winner of America's most famous motorcycle race.

Babar the Elephant is a French children's fictional character who first appeared in Histoire de Babar by Jean de Brunhoff in 1931 and enjoyed immediate success. An English language version, entitled The Story of Babar, appeared in 1933 in Britain and also in the United States. The book is based on a tale that Brunhoff's wife, Cecile, had invented for their children. Manx Nortons also played a significant role in the development of post war car racing. At the end of 1950, the English national 500 cc regulations were adopted as the new Formula 3. The JAP Speedway engine had dominated the category initially but the Manx was capable of producing significantly more power and became the engine of choice. Many complete motorcycles were bought in order to strip the engine for 500 cc car racing, as Norton would not sell separate engines.

A lot of people have taken notice of our first project, Loki. We received very positive and constructive feedback. Now with more experience here in China, we wanted to reinvent the Chang Jiang. We’re happy to present our second bike, Magnus, the second bike to roll out of Bandit9.

One of the coolest things about Magnus is it's colour. We couldn't go with a regular paint job since the bike's personality needed something special. I wanted to get an appearance no other shop could replicate, which is especially important in China. I took a blowtorch and lit the tank, frame and fork on fire. After clearing the burnt outer layer, what was left was this organic pattern on the metal. The tank has a really unusual stone-like look.

The form of the bike is very different from the usual Chang Jiang. I wanted Magnus to look and to feel much lighter than the bulky style the CJ750's often have. By taking off the back fender the bike is more sleek and agile. The seat position flows with the lines of the bike, so you can't even see it when you're riding it.

I'm always looking for ways to simplify and my bikes. Most CJ750's have so many extra pieces that really don't need to be there. I want to keep only the essentials and throw out the rest. The smaller custom air filter gives the bike’s profile a nice void. I used the same short style exhausts from Loki, this time with a chrome finish. The exposed chrome suspension gives the bike a nice finish. I've never seen twin headlights on a CJ, so its definitely a new touch for the bike. I took the speedometer from the original CJ headlight and used the dial by itself. The rough edges of it add to the rawness of the bike.

I had to get creative to make every inch of Magnus special, since resources are very limited here in China. I used an old crank shaft to redesign the gas cap. It’s really unique and gives it a steampunk look. It’s probably my favorite aspect of Magnus.

We hope Magnus will bring Bandit9 beyond the motorcycle world and into the realm of art. Our new site is up - www.banditnine.com - a special thanks to Niamh Daly for taking care of the site. Loki and Magnus are now officially for sale; details on the site. Bandit #3 is on the way.

Hello Frank,

It has been a while after my last input, I'm currently busy with the book on the GardenGate Manx.
The book will be a mixture of the IPC, the CMM and technical information (Illustrated Parts Catalogue & Customer Maintanance Manual), that sounds complicaticated but in fact it's more or less a picture album where the reader can see the bike grow step by step, starting with the frame, than the engine and so on, till the complete Norton at the end of the book.
Each step is illustrated with pictures generated from the 3D model, like the pictures you're looking at right now. I'm trying to complete the book asap, which still will be a year from now due to the fact that I also have to earn some money to get around.

Nevertheless, were now looking at the BTH magneto, a forgotten part since it has to do with 'electrics' which is boring for mechanical engineers like me. But what a lovely piece of engineering it is, and most of all it provides us with the spark needed to fire up the engine!

Hello Frank,
I was surprised and delighted to see a couple of photos I took on your website, thanks to Google Analytics showing visitor links from your site. You have a stunning website which I'm currently working through. The photos of the old Triumphs and other classic motorcycles are simply wonderful. I'll add it to my blog list. Don't feel obligated to use it in the slightest, but I've attached a high res photo of another unusual race bike from the 60's. It's my drag bike - Icarus.

It started off as a supercharged 350cc Triumph twin. Unfortunately, the mean piston speed was sufficiently high that piston crowns regularly detached themselves at the oil control ring, not to mention other failures. To overcome these problems, I manufactured a short stroke crankshaft and mated it to a 500 cc barrel and head to make it an ultra-short stroke 350cc.

There were a few development issues but within a season, it was one of the 2 fastest 350's in the UK. There was a lot more development work to be done, but marriage, career and a move to NZ stopped further racing.

This interesting yacht VIS features two saloons. One of them is Admiral’s salon and the other one Officer’s salon. The vessel had originally incredible 32 cabins and 52 berths. All high ranking navy officers of that time served on the VIS yacht. Other than this, she welcomed numerous world renowned personalities from the show-business and the politics likewise. This included members of the British Royal Family on number of occasions.
